Now, I have a question. Were you 1 of the people on your list? I will be honest, when I first thought about this, I wasn’t on my own. If you were like me and listed family members, significant others, or friends BEFORE yourself, I have a few gentle reminders for you.
You need to give yourself a lot more credit. Think of all of the things YOU have overcome in your life. You have worked hard and conquered things you probably could have never imagined. You have done brave things, even if you don’t feel like it sometimes.
It is unrealistic to expect yourself to feel brave and happy all of the time. We have feelings (good and bad), because we are human. Here is your reminder to feel your feelings, ask for help, and know you are doing your best. You can be a strong person and struggle with mental health. No matter how you feel, you are loved and you matter very much.
I want you to take time for the people you love, but don’t forget to love yourself. I am rooting for you (along with so many people). Read this letter as many times as you need. No matter how you may feel in this big world or what your mind has told you before, we need you here.
